The War on Drugs, Then and Now

“Prohibition”

Prohibition is an awful flop.
We like it.
It can’t stop what it’s meant to stop.
We like it.
It’s left a trail of graft and slime,
It don’t prohibit worth a dime,
It’s filled our land with vice and crime.
Nevertheless, we’re for it.

David Blaine: Superstar

In 1997, my girlfriend was working in a Soho bookstore when a man walked in with a small entourage.  He brought a magazine to the counter.

I’m in this magazine, the man said.  I’m famous.

That’s great, my girlfriend said.

Don’t you know who I am, he said.

I’m afraid not, she said.

I’m David Blaine, he said.  I do magic tricks and dangerous stunts.  I’m a famous person.  I’m in this magazine.

My girlfriend didn’t know what to say and rang him up.
